Our Partners
The Delaware County Historical Society has strong relationships with other local and state organizations working in public history. Locally, the DCHS partners with the Muncie Public Library, Minnetrista, Ball State University Libraries, and the Yorktown-Mt. Pleasant Township Historical Alliance and Museum for programming and research. The society also partners with the Indiana Historical Society on exhibits and with the Indiana Historical Bureau and State Archives for research. The society also maintains relationships with East-Central Indiana historical societies in Madison, Grant, Randolph, and Henry counties.
Muncie Public Library (MPL) offers a robust local history and genealogy collection to the general public. Additionally, MPL often partners with DCHS on local programming, including the community scan day, and provides a historic space for various history related events.
Minnetrista’s Heritage Collection provides access to an extensive collection of Ball and Muncie related historical pieces to the public at-large. Furthermore, Minnetrista frequently collaborates with DCHS and other history adjacent organizations on programming and public presentations.
Yorktown-Mt. Pleasant Historical Alliance
The Yorktown-Mt. Pleasant Township Historical Alliance and Museum provides valuable resources related to the greater Yorktown and Mt. Pleasant Township communities. DCHS participates and assists in various programs sponsored by the Alliance.
The Archives and Special Collections, located in Bracken Library at Ball State University, offers a considerable collection of Ball State and regional historical artifacts to students, researchers, and the public. The archive also collaborates with various history associated organizations, including DCHS, on projects such as the Notable Women of Muncie and Delaware County initiative and the Making History: Women’s History Workshop.
Indiana Historical Society (IHS) furnishes themed traveling exhibit material to local and regional historical entities. In 2021 and 2022, the IHS provided two exhibits–Securing the Vote: Women’s Suffrage in Indiana (2021) and From Pencils to Pixels: Hoosier Cartoons and Comics (2022) – to DCHS, which were augmented with local material and opened to the public in a dedicated space within the Moore-Youse-Maxon House.
Indiana Historical Bureau and Indiana Jewish Historical Society
In 2021 and 2022, DCHS collaborated with the Indiana Historical Bureau and Indiana Jewish Historical Society to erect a historical marker–one of only 7 in the county– in Albany, Indiana for humanitarian James Grover McDonald.
